The Recession Was Avoidable

By Leonard C Tekaat

Basically what has happened to our economy, the means of exchange has decreased significantly.

The Committee For Economic Reform and a Better Economic Future has developed an Alternative Economic Stimulus plan to restart our economy. It does not require the Federal government to create a huge deficit, to return consumer’s deposable income.

CSUB Professor of Economics Mark Evans was quoted as saying, we are going to have to live with large deficits for a long time, and there is no other way. We disagree with that statement. The Committee believes that there is another way. President Obama is relying on Keynesian Economics. John Maynard Keynes policies put governments into massive debt, to stimulate the economy and return people’s disposable income. Over time more government programs are created, increasing the size of government, as our economy cycles through periodic periods of recession and inflation.

Consumption and home creation represents 75% of the economic activity in our economy. The economy will not fully recover until the consumer’s financial condition and confidence improves. Investor confidence, in making long-term investments, needs to improve also. This will happen as the economy improves and when we enact the Zero Inflation Taxation Policy.

When the Federal Reserve lowered the Fed rate and the banks and other financial institutions could not follow the Fed’ lead, of lowering the cost of the means of exchange, the collapse of employment and the stock market occurred. If lower interest rates had been available, for credit worthy borrowers, the money supply would have quickly expanded, creating enough of the means of exchange for our economy to continue to work.

The recession would not have gotten out of control, causing the massive layoffs, decreasing people’s disposable income, there-by causing the economy to continue its downward spiral. Consumer and investor confidence was thus lost.

The enterprise economic system cannot operate efficiently, without the correct amount of the means of exchange (money) being in balance with available supply.

They are asking you for your endorsement and support of the Alternative Economic Stimulus Plan. They are asking you to please review it at their web site. They also want you to read the other economic policy papers first, so you will obtain a complete picture of why we are repeating the mistakes of the Great Depression. Without the changes we need to improve our economy, we will continue to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Opportunities in an Age of Economic Uncertainty

By Carlos G. Garcia

The current economic situation has been described as one of the worst recessions in recent history, and as a possible depression not seen since the Great Depression. Most economists agree that the current economic crisis has probably not hit the bottom, and that the road to recovery will be long and hard.

Personally, I believe that the recovery is within our reach.

If we take a look at how the current economic crisis is evolving, we tend to see a trend and what some call a vicious circle. Let me explain. Companies around the world are feeling the economic punch and are looking for ways to become profitable and to stay in business. Most companies look for ways to lower their costs by cutting salaries, re-negotiating salaries, and maybe even laying off workers.

If salaries are reduced, or if employees are let go, their spending power will be affected. People will start to re-evaluate their spending and will focus on covering basic necessities. By examining this effect, it becomes obvious that people will start to spend less and will try to save more. By doing so, they start consuming less goods that are not basic necessity.

Now, if people start spending less, companies that produce goods are affected directly by having lower sales volumes. This translates into companies having a difficult time covering expenses, and thus having to look for ways to cut costs, resulting in cutting salaries and laying off workers.

There you have it! The cycle begins again. Of course, one of the simple laws of economics comes into play: demand and supply. If the demand for a certain product decreases, the supply of this product has to adjust itself to the demand, in order to not have to lower the price of the goods. This makes sense, and is one of the primary reasons for the economic crisis, along with inflated prices for certain goods, the famous NINJA (no income, no job) credits, and in some cases, manipulation of information.

You are probably thinking, referencing the title of this article, what does this have to do with opportunity.

Well, opportunity is a key factor for getting out of this cycle. No matter what the economic situation is, there are hundreds of thousands of people who are trying to find new ways of generating income. Like some say: “The crisis brings out the best in us, it creates new ideas, it helps the creative process, and it makes us tougher and wiser”

With this concept in mind, one of the things we need, is the right attitude. By right attitude I mean, the will to fight, work hard, and find new ways of generating income so that the current economic crisis does not affect us.

If you sit at work all day, and then at home all night thinking only about the crisis, and how it is affecting, you are not helping yourself. You have to change your state of mind, and try to see the positive side of it. Think about how you can survive this crisis and what you can do to come out on top.

The basic concept follows the line of not depending on one single stream of income, like a job. You have to create multiple streams of income, so that if one fails, you still have the others to rely on. Basically, the more income streams you have, the better.

An Arena of Thoughts on Global Warming

By: Aazdak Alisimo

Is global warming the biggest threat to us or not. The debate seems to sway back and forth depending on who you happen to be listening to at the time. So, who should you believe? Read the following and decide for yourself.

Global warming – at least the modern nightmare vision – is a myth. I am sure of it and so are a growing number of scientists. But what is really worrying is that the world’s politicians and policy makers are not. – Professor David Bellamy

We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late… The science is clear. The global warming debate is over. – Arnold Schwarzenegger

Man has reached the point where his impact on the climate can be as significant as nature’s. – Warrick, Joby.

If you asked me to name the three scariest threats facing the human race, I would give the same answer that most people would: nuclear war, global warming and Windows. – Dave Barry

In fact, even the current administration now is releasing recent reports indicating that climate change is real, that global warming is occurring, that it is heavily influenced by man-made objects and that it is something we cannot ignore any longer. – Ron Kind

The answer to global warming is in the abolition of private property and production for human need. A socialist world would place an enormous priority on alternative energy sources. This is what ecologically-minded socialists have been exploring for quite some time now. – Louis Proyect

While human-induced global warming is not going to turn present-day Earth into present-day Mars, global warming is dire enough that our most distinguished scientists recently concluded that as many as 1 million species on the planet could be extinct by 2050 if affairs do not change. – Jay Inslee

It used to be controversial whether smoking caused lung cancer, it used to be controversial whether HIV caused AIDS. Now, there are a few mavericks who deny those things. In the case of climate change, I think the debate is going the same way in that there is a strong consensus that it is a serious matter. – Lord Martin Rees

A-Z of Global Warming: Carbon Dioxide

By: Simon Rosser

We are well into our alphabetic A to Z journey on global warming. C for Carbon dioxide is one of the main players in the global warming problem. Carbon dioxide, chemical symbol co2 is a chemical compound composed of one carbon and two oxygen atoms.

CO2 is present in the Earth’s atmosphere at a low concentration, around 0.038% by volume, and is one of many gases that make up Earth’s atmosphere. CO2 is measured in parts per million by volume of air (PPMV). Atmospheric carbon dioxide comes from many natural sources including volcanic eruptions, the combustion of organic matter, the respiration of living aerobic organisms, and unfortunately from manmade (anthropogenic) sources, which we all know from the news is being linked to global warming and climate change.

Since the industrial revolution particularly the mid nineteenth century, the burning of fossil fuels for energy to provide electricity, power factories, homes and for all our transport needs has released massive amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Not only the burning of fossil fuels, but changes in the use of the land for agriculture and deforestation has further added to global manmade CO2 levels. According to the World Wildlife fund some 29 gigatons which is 29 billion metric tons of CO2 was added to the atmosphere in 2004 alone from burning coal, oil and gas.

If we go back 250 years or so, to pre- industrial times, usually taken to be around 1750, CO2 levels in the atmosphere were around 280 parts per million by volume (ppmv). However levels of the gas have been increasing steadily ever since.

HOW DO WE KNOW THIS?

Well, pioneering scientist Charles Keeling (1928-2005) started taking atmospheric CO2 measurements in 1958 from Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii. Those measurements have been recorded and are now known as The Keeling Curve. Charles Keeling was the professor of oceanography at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO) which is in San Diego, USA, and he followed the work of another eminent scientist and director of the SIO, Roger Revelle. Dr Revelle was instrumental in creating the Geophysical Year in 1958 and SIO’s first programme looking at atmospheric CO2 back in 1956.

Monthly CO2 measurements were collected from a height of 3397 metres (11,140 feet) at the Mauna Loa Observatory situated on the slopes of Earth’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa in Hawaii which was chosen for its remoteness to populations and vegetation so as not to skewer the readings.

Measurements have been taken over a 50 year period between 1958 and present, which show a rise in CO2 levels of 70 ppmv from around 315 ppmv to around their current level of 385 ppmv. The effects of CO2 in the atmosphere can even be measured on a cyclical basis, and this can be seen in the saw toothed keeling graph. Because there is greater land area, and thus far more plant life in the Northern Hemisphere compared to the Southern Hemisphere, there is an annual fluctuation of about 5 ppmv peaking in May and reaching a minimum in October. This corresponds to the Northern Hemisphere growing season. The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere drops towards spring when uptake by the plants and trees by photosynthesis is greatest. The opposite occurs in winter when the plants die off and CO2 levels increase again.

Continuous readings in this way have only been taken since 1958, however scientists have discovered that prior to the industrial era, circa 1750, CO2 levels stood at around 280 ppmv and this data has been revealed from air trapped in ice core records, taken from both the Antarctic and Arctic. Perhaps the most startling is the fact that CO2 levels are now around 85 ppmv higher than at any time during the last 650,000 years. Records from ice core records go back that far and have shown atmospheric CO2 levels to range from 180-300 ppmv during that period. The level of CO2 in our atmosphere now stands at 385 ppmv, and is increasing steadily.

The Keeling curve has become one of the most recognisable images in modern science as it shows with no uncertainty the effects of humankind’s fossil fuel pollution of Earth’s atmosphere.

CO2 levels have increased by 37% since pre-industrial times and have been increasing by an average of almost 1.4 ppmv a year since measurements began in 1958, although some months the figure has been higher, sometimes lower. In the last ten years however, the average increase appears to be around 1.9 ppmv each year, which indicates the rate of increase is increasing.

Whilst CO2 is a natural greenhouse gas, and important in natural concentrations to maintain Earth’s climate, anthropogenic CO2 is now pushing up Earth’s temperature. Earth’s natural sinks, like the Amazon rainforest and the oceans struggle to absorb the additional CO2 now being added to the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels. It is a know scientific fact that higher levels of greenhouse gases, of which CO2 is a component cause a warming of Earth’s atmosphere. If CO2 is not kept in check and continues to rise at current levels it will eventually cause Earth’s temperature to increase to levels which maybe critical to life on Earth.

The Effects of Climate Change

By Marie R

The climate has effected great change in the make up of human and natural systems. This is true of changes we are seeing in flora and fauna and the diminishing availability of good quality drinking water.

As the earth’s temperatures rise, the effects of these changes will increase dramatically.

Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather.

Hardest hit, and first, will be the poorest countries. The wealthy nations buy and consume products contributing to the emissions, and the poor are unable to adapt to the consequences.

The burden of disease has increased, and is expected to get much worse in the future.

An uneven impact on food production will be one effect. Moderate temperature increases will see a rise in productivity at the global level, but at lower latitudes, especially seasonally dry and tropical regions, crop productivity is projected to decrease for even small local temperature increases increasing risk of hunger.

The causes of climate change and its impact on the environment and human health are becoming increasingly understood, and increasingly problematic.

This is not a government, economic or moral problem, but one affecting everyone and we need to treat it as a global problem.

To try and find solutions for the climate change problems, requires strong leadership from our governments and environmental bodies.

Climate change is the result of a great many factors including the dynamic processes of the earth, external forces including variations in sunlight intensity, and more recently, by human activities.

External factors that can shape climate are often called climate forcing and include such processes as variations in solar radiation, deviations in the earth’s orbit, and the level of greenhouse gas concentrations.

Ancient Lessons To Help Us Fight Climate Change

Ancient Lessons To Help Us Fight Climate Change

By Anand Krishna

Thousands of years ago — to be precise around 10,000 BC — we faced a similar climate problem to what we are facing today.

According to one popular Hindu legend, contamination had poisoned the seas and the oceans. It was a terrible situation. The polluted waters caused poisonous gases that threatened life on earth.

At that time, the whole world united to deal with the crisis. All wars between the nations ended. The major powers, the sura and the asura, who had always been hostile towards each other, decided to end all their hostilities and unite to face the threat.

The sura were the people, the nations “in line” with and attuned to nature. They were the “rhythmic” people. On the other hand, the asura were the people, the nations “not in line” with nature, not attuned to nature. They were “not rhythmic”.

The so called “good” and “wise”, in the olden days were called rhythmic, because their lives where in rhythm with Mother Nature. They were environmentally conscious, clean and ate the right kind of food. They developed technologies that were useful and life-friendly.

The asura did not care for rhythmic life. They did not care much about the environment. They did not bother about cleanliness. They ate what they liked. And they developed technologies that could destroy all humankind.

Our world today is still divided between these two kinds of people: The rhythmic and the arrhythmic. There are people and nations developing technologies which could bring an end to human life, and there are people and nations working for peace and harmony.

Climate change is nothing new. It has happened in the distant past, as we shall learn from the legend. It may also happen again in the near and distant future, if we do not learn lessons from our past.

In 10,000 BC, according to the legend, both the sura and the asura let go of their differences — political, social and religious — and decided to face the common threat.

This was their mistake. You can never let go of such differences. The differences are there, they are very real. You can, at best, shut your eyes to such differences.

The unity between the sura and the asura did not have a real foundation. The platform they stood upon was not strong enough to hold both of them for long.

Facing global warming today, I am afraid we are standing upon such a flimsy foundation. The appeals made by United Nations and the truly admirable work of Al Gore and others must create stronger ground for unity.

Let not the “threat of destruction” unites us.

Such a unity shall not last long. Let us not shun our differences, for differences cannot be shunned. Let us build the platform of unity on the awareness that differences are not a hindrance to unity. Unity makes sense because of such differences. Without such differences, we shall not be speaking about unity. We are different, yet united. This is the same as the motto of Indonesia: Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Unity in Diversity.

“Awareness”, a “sense of oneness” — these are the essential ingredients lacking in the world. And therefore, any notion or idea of unity remains a notion, an idea. It is still a dream; a theme for poets and writers; a project for various institutions. It has not become a reality. Not yet.

Motivated by the “Common Threat”, the sura and the asura of the olden days did unite.

First, they dropped their weapons.

Secondly, they began to cleanse the waters. They realized that the “threat” was of their own creation. And, that they must deal with it by themselves. In that, at least, they were right.

They did not blame it on God, mother nature but blamed it on their own doings, such was their realization.

Once again, their realization was great. What they did was right. It is just the foundation — that was not right. And since the foundation was not right, their unity did not last long.

What we are facing today, is a kind of repetition of what we have faced in the past, not once, not twice, but many times. We have also done much — on a worldwide scale — to face this threat.

Today, our world is almost united on this issue. We were never so united in the past. This is commendable. But, let us check the platform upon which we have built this united front. Is it based on awareness that this world is but one family, that we share the same earth, same sky, same sun, moon, and stars? Or, is it built upon a “threat”, upon “fear”.

If unity is built upon a sense of threat and fear, then it shall not last long. It cannot hold us for long. Let us, therefore, strengthen this platform first. Let us unite our hearts, and let us unite in love and compassion.

The developed countries must let go of their big egos, the developing countries must let go of their complexes. Today, as never before, we are accorded a golden chance to unite in awareness. Thanks to information technology tools, today we have free and fast access to all kind of information, news and science. Today, we can, as never before, really work together in “real time”. We can learn and think in real time.

Achieve Your Goals Using Self Hypnosis

By: David Slone

Article reviewed by reputationprofessor.com

Self hypnosis can be a great tool for helping you to set and attain goals and for self improvement. Most people are very surprised when they find out how easy it is to learn self hypnosis. Once you learn the techniques and implement them in your life self hypnosis can make a lot of things in your life much easier.

Often, when we think of Self hypnosis, we imagine a person listening to an audio tape intended to bring about an inclination to absorb suggestions that are centered around a specific topic such as losing weight, quitting smoking, etc.

It is unfortunate that this type of hypnosis program is generally created by someone who has never met the person using the hypnosis technique. Often the technique presents unwanted or even unpleasant suggestions and imagery. For example, if you have a fear of water, the last thing you may want to hear or imagine is a situation where you are in a boat. Or if you have a fear of flying you may not find imagery of floating through the clouds as pleasant.

So how can you incorporate self improvement goals into your own hypnosis technique? To be able to stimulate self improvement in your own personal life there are specific facets within your own personality that need to be dealt with. With the use of self hypnosis the negative aspects that serve as obstacles to self improvement can be eliminated. A truly worthwhile and effective self hypnosis program must be created and designed by the actual person who will use the technique in order for that person to benefit the most from following it.

Unlike the self hypnosis programs that are mass produced, this type of hypnosis is geared toward the actual person who is using it. It can be designed by the person to suit his or her own personal requirements. The benefits obtained through self hypnosis can only be obtained through the use of a personal, one of a kind tailor made hypnosis technique. Self hypnosis truly means that you are hypnotized by yourself and there is no one who is better suited than you to create your self hypnosis excerises.

Choose loose, comfortable clothing, This will help a lot in the process since tight fitting clothes have a tendency to make you feel tense.

The place you where you practice your self hypnosis sessions should have a calm and soothing atmosphere. It may be in your living room, or bedroom, or any place that you feel comfortable in. Arrange the place so that it is the most soothing to your senses.

Before you begin your self hypnotic exercises you should make a time schedule for it. Try to stick to your schedule and soon you will get into the habit of doing it and it will come natural to you. Practice your self hypnosis sessions every day, if at all possible. make it an important part of your daily life. Don’t try to overdo it, five minutes a day is enough. Repeat your suggestions to yourself as often as possible throughout each day.

Silence helps most people to relax, so you may want to choose a quiet, private area far away from the ringing of the phone or the humming of the washing machine. Many people use a fan to drown out the sounds that could disturb concentration. Pleasant scents also help in that regard, so using up on aromatic candles or incense can also be a good idea.

Here is a basic view of the process of self hypnosis. There are many different approaches to self hypnosis, but the fundamental principles remain the same. Keep in mind that these are the basic steps you will need to go through in order to achieve self hypnosis and to accomplish desired self improvement.

1. List and arrange your goals from the most important goal to the less important. If at all possible, your goals should be measurable. Set clearly defined short and long term goals so you will be able to measure your progress and achieve personal satisfaction once you have successfully obtained your goals. Your self confidence will also improve as you become more attuned to your capabilities as you complete or achieve your goals.

2. For each specific goal, you should define appropriate suggestions on how to achieve each goal. You will need to convert your goals to specific instructions to your subconscious mind.

3. Use the first few minutes of your self hypnotic session to get as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Try to clear your mind from all of your concerns and problems.

4. Begin your hypnotic phase by repeating aloud the hypnotic words or phrases that you have chosen in step 2. Think of these words or listen to a hypnotic recording customized for your own personal hypnotic and goal fulfillment needs.

The Foundation Of Self By reputationprofessor.com

Reputation Professor on Feb 1st 2010

The Foundation Of Self

By: Tonya Ramsey

Article recommended by reputationprofessor.com

Imagine you are building a house. The first and most important step is to start with a strong foundation. A good foundation will support the structure of the house; a bad foundation will cause endless problems with the stability of the structure. The same thing applies to our own foundations. If we do not have a healthy strong foundation, everything that we try to build on top of it is going to topple down.

Self-Esteem, Self-Confidence, and Self-Image make up the foundation of self. Low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence or negative self-image can weaken and destroy our foundation. A fragile foundation hinders self-improvement and goal obtainment because as we try and try we see our efforts collapse. The connection between the amount of success that we see in our lives is in proportion to how healthy or unhealthy our sense of self is.

Self- Esteem is the sense of one’s worth or value. It is the opinion or judgment of yourself and the measure of self-respect and pride that you have for yourself. People that have low self-esteem do not hold themselves a high regard. They are often people pleasers that neglect their own needs for the needs of others. Low self-esteem prevents a person from accomplishing goals in their lives because on either a conscious or an subconscious level they do not really believe they are worthy. Individuals that have low self-esteem might engage in acts of self-sabotage to make their belief that they are not worthy of success a reality, not only in their own minds, but in their physical reality as well.

Self-confidence is the belief in yourself and your abilities. Low self-confidence often keeps people from going after their goals because they do not believe they have the skills or abilities to succeed. This often creates a self-fulfilling prophecy, if you don’t think you can then you won’t, no matter what steps you employ. Lack of belief in your abilities will prevent most people from even attempting to go after their goals or to give up too quickly.

Self-Image is the overall concept or metal image of yourself and your assessment of your qualities. This is simply what you think of yourself, do you consider yourself as a good person or a bad person. How do you define yourself? When you think about your traits do only see the bad? How do you describe yourself to others? These are all questions to consider when figuring out if your self-image is positive or negative. An unhealthy self-image impacts your overall feelings of worth which inhibits self-improvement and growth.

These three foundation blocks are interconnected. A low self-esteem is usually going to result in low self-confidence and poor self-image. In turn, having a negative self-image contributes to your low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence. The three work together to form the foundation of self, a trouble in one area leads to issues in the remaining two; making the urgency to work on the areas that need improvement even more critical.

The best way to keep your foundation strong is to first and foremost realize your worth, know that you are a good person and that you deserve success in your life. If you really do not believe that, you start with changing the way you think. Daily affirmations are an effective way to change negative thoughts connected with your image, esteem, and confidence. By telling yourself positives, you are through repetition retraining yourself to think differently about yourself.

Changing the way that you talk to yourself is another way to strengthen your foundation. Most people with low sense of self, engage in negative self talk and are very critical of themselves. Being aware of how you talk to yourself and making the switch from negative to positive can really change the way you think and feel about yourself. It also improves the relationship that you have with yourself, promoting self-love and better insights into yourself.

By thinking of yourself as being worthy and deserving of success in all areas of your life, you are removing limiting thinking. Our thoughts help create the realities in our lives. By believing in yourself, you are creating and maintaining the healthy sense of self that is going to help you flourish.

The Logic Behind Branding Graphics With Watermarks

Glen Luckman Watermarks By Sam Miller.

Let us face it: branding is certainly something that each and every company should acquaint themselves with. This is because no successful company or brand has ever attained its success without employing branding to some extent or degree. And if you are delving into the arena of branding graphics, then you should know the important role that visual vocabulary plays.

Visual elements should always be prioritized by any company, especially when building brand identity. You may think to yourself that the logo should be enough to build a strong brand for your company. If you think all that it takes is just your logo, then you should think again. You should go way beyond the logo because this is just not enough for you to convey to the general public all of the attributes that your brand holds to its name. Visual vocabulary then is the only way to go. And this would be comprised of all sorts of graphics that you use, particularly on your website, to strongly mold the identity of your brand, making it a force to reckon with in the market. Just to name a few of the aspects that comprise visual vocabulary, this would include the font styles, the colors, layout conventions, the shapes, the background, the text treatment, taglines, and the photographic library employed.

Since all of these graphics and visual elements will be used to make your brand stronger, then you should take it upon yourself to employ watermarks all over them. Let us say you are operating an online store that sells all sorts of gadgets, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, iPod players, MP3 players, laptops, and the like. Surely you will be posting pictures of the items you are selling online for your potential customers to see. However, not all of your visitors are actually potential customers. Some of them could even be your competitors, seeking out the competition in the market, and they just might use the pictures that you posted for their own purpose. You cannot allow this to happen, right? Thus, you have to employ the use of watermarking so that you can protect your pictures from unauthorized, and most certainly unlawful, use.

The great thing about using watermarks for your graphics here is that you can use the specific type of watermark. This means you can use the name of your brand or your company for the text of your watermark. This way, you can then use your watermark as free advertisement on the pictures of the products you are selling. What’s more, this would discourage your visitors from lifting the pictures from your site because they would have to deal with the watermark you place on your images. The pictures of the products that they plan to lift from your website would be useless because they would end up just promoting your brand or company.

Thus, if you are delving into branding graphics, then you should consider using watermarks to strengthen brand identity. Aside from brand strengthening, you also protect the interests of your business as well.
